Verizon Makes Big Splash at NY Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival NEW YORK, NY, August 6, 2007 -- The Verizon booth drew over 6,000 visitors and became an attraction in itself at the 2007 Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Flushing Meadows Park. For two consecutive years, Verizon has been a major sponsor to the Dragon Boat Festival. Verizon became a feature of the event with its new 30-by-30 foot Opti-dome on display. Upon entering the Verizon booth, visitors experienced the Opti-dome spectacle which was fully-equipped with light bar, fans, six laptops and in-language translators on hand. Visitors were then issued tickets to participate in booth activities, including, personal photo shirt-printing, the Asianology game show, face painting and the snow cone giveaway. The booth also featured two daily scheduled performances by Chinese clown, Rob Lok. “For what was already such an illustrious event, I’m thrilled Verizon was able to contribute even more,” said Verizon multi-cultural marketing director Amber Chang. The 2007 Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York was the 17th annual celebration of the race. Dragon Boat racing commemorates idealistic poet and reformer Qu Yuan who drowned himself. The elaborate racing boats and beating drums are to divert the fish and water dragons from eating his body. The two-day event, Aug. 4 and Aug. 5, featured more than 150 teams and 1,500 rowers. More than 50,000 visitors were estimated to have attended this year’s event. "Verizon belongs in the head of the pack in New York's Dragon Boat Race," said Admerasia general manager Tommy Ng. "With our event team's seamless collaboration with a committed client, its fun stepping up and delivering another hit." |
